There is no duplication of awards. Overall winners are not considered for age group awards. Participants competing in 2 of the 3 events throughout the summer are eligible for “series awards”. Series awards are given to the overall top 5 male/female and overall top 3 master male/female runners based on their 2 fastest times combined. Master division runners who place in the top 5 overall will be awarded the overall division award and will not be considered for the master's division series award. Where is packet pick-up? We will also have a number of portable toilets on site. What are the distances?5km (3.1 mile) run/walk, 1 mile run/walk (this will NOT be ChampionChip timed), and a Kiddie Dash (50 and 100 meters). Can I qualify for Boston?Sure you can, but unfortunatley not at the OKC Summer Sunset 5k Race Series. Our course is only 3.1 miles long, and you would still would have to run another 23.1 miles (Marathon =26.2 miles) on a certified course, and then do it in qualifying time. Check out www.BAA.com for the times for your age group. And good luck! Are walkers allowed? Yes, walkers are allowed and welcomed! Participants can run or walk the events. Many participants use these three events to train for their first 5km. They may run/walk the first event in June and train all summer to complete the final 5km in August running! These events are a great way to monitor your fitness progress throughout the summer! Is the course a closed course? The Regatta Park and Earlywine courses are run on paved park running trails. There is a small section at the start and finish of the Earlywine course that is run on the park road, however this will be coned off for runners and we will have traffic control. The trails will NOT be closed to pedestrian traffic since this is a public park and there may be walkers or people on the trails from the surrounding neighborhoods. Please be courteous as we are guests in their park and they may not be aware of the race in progress. We will have a lead out bicyclist to alert pedestrians of the approaching runners. The Overholser course is run on open roads along the lake, but we will have traffic support. The Blue Suede Sneakers run will be held on the Lake Hefner Trails and around Stars and Stipes Park. Is there a run for kids? Yes. Kids are strongly encouraged to participate and we organized these events with that in mind! Kids may participate in the 5km and 1 mile at reduced costs. There is also the very popular “kiddie dash” following the 1 mile and before the 5km. Kids can run the free 50 yard/100 meter dash across the finish line and will receive race numbers and finishers ribbons. Where do I park on race day? There are several parking areas throughout the parks, however parking may be limited depending on other activities in the parks on race day. Arrive early to ensure parking. Can I run with headphones, strollers, roller blades, pets, etc.? Sorry, no strollers, baby-joggers, skateboards, roller blades, bicycles, or animals allowed on the course. Only runners allowed on the course. USATF rules prohibit strollers, baby-joggers and dogs, in the 5Km as this is a liability issue. Strollers/baby-joggers can participate in the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk but please begin at the back of the pack to allow runners an open course. Use of headphones is strongly discouraged . This is a safety issue. While the events are held on paved park trails free of vehicular traffic, there is some running on park roads and you need to be aware of your surroundings. We may also need to make announcements that may impact the run and runners need to be able to hear these. Please be cautious. What about refunds if something happens? Unfortunately, all entries are non-refundable and non-transferable (can't use your entry for a later event). Once we receive and accept your entry, you will not be able to receive a refund as these entry fees are used to cover all race costs. If you cannot participate, you may not give or sell your number/entry to anyone else and entry fees cannot be transferred from event to event. Please email us at summersunsetrun@cox.net if you have questions. What if it rains? Good! We need rain! The events are run rain or shine. If there are severe storms (hail, lightning), the event may be delayed for safety. We will run (happily!) in rain. Entry fees are non-refundable. Movie night and kids night activities are weather permitting! I have children under the age of 15. Is there a discount for children? Yes. There is a discounted fee for children 15 and under and these will include a kids race packet rather than an adult race packet (i.e., cotten tee vs. technical tee). The event fees help cover the costs of sanctioning the event, event permits, and all the various costs required to make these great events. Where can I find my results? Results will be available on the event website at www.summersunsetrun.com and at www.dgroadracing.com , our event timing company. How can my company/business help sponsor these events? These events are possible through the support of local businesses. Without their support, these events would not be possible. These events are a great opportunity for local businesses to gain exposure and advertise their services to the community. If you are interested in this great opportunity, you can email us at summersunsetrun@cox.net.
